OVERVIEW
According to Google Search Trends, searches for self-care-related terms increased by 250% between 2021 and 2022. In that context, the demand for skincare is thriving dramatically. Skincare, according to men and women of all ages, is a crucial component of choosing a healthy lifestyle, and many of them think that self-care activities affect their general well-being.
Skincare's growth can be attributed to the distinct position it holds among several trends, including rising interest in regimens and routines as powerful tools for self-care and empowerment, and most notably, the capacity of new technology to make the unusually complex choices that customers face when interacting with skincare brands simpler.
Taking care of the skin is not an easy task. It’s a long and constant process that requires a commitment to make sure each individual maintains skin problems and does not allow them to flare back up again. Moreover, cultivating the best skincare routine is no easy task. It's difficult to know what skincare products to buy, how often to apply them, and even what sequence to use them in.

SOLUTIONS IN DETAILS
00
DESIGN PROCESS
Let me walk you through the process I used to develop the solutions.
01
EMPATHIZE
I start the project by researching to learn more about the environment and people, their requirements, and what drives them. I created a research strategy outlining my objectives, presumptions, questions, and procedures before starting my study. The research findings are essential in building the groundwork for eventual solution ideation.
I'm interested in finding out more about people's self-care practices and emotional motivations that relate to their usage of skincare products. This will assist in identifying any knowledge gaps that restrict them from creating & maintaining a skincare routine.
I carried out research to uncover the latest market trends and future growth opportunities for the Skincare sector after being severely impacted by the pandemic. Additionally, I identify the market's target demographic.
Analyzing the brands and products of competitors, or the companies who offer similar products, can give me a well-rounded foundation of knowledge about the market WuahSkin will enter. Besides, by investing time into competitive audits, I will also be able to learn from the mistakes of WuahSkin’s competitors and can avoid making those mistakes.
3 skincare-related apps act as direct competitors and are chosen to be in this competitive study. Moreover, I also decided to include Paula’s Choice website as an indirect competitor to serve the research. You can tap here to find the full competitive audit.
To learn more about the users I'm designing the app for (their difficulties, objectives, requirements, and motivations), as well as to have a more comprehensive grasp when it comes to adhering to & sustaining an efficient skincare regimen, I then did primary research via 1-on-1 interviews.
02
DEFINE
After conducting user research and identifying common problems, which are UX issues that frustrate and block the user from getting what they need from a product, I created the user persona to represent key audience segments. It supports my efforts to solve the most pressing issues and substantial requirements of the most significant user groups.
Using the user journey, persona, and insights from the research stage, I used the “How might we” exercise to approach the ideation process. How Might We (HMW) is a design thinking exercise that turns challenges into design possibilities. HMW stimulates your imagination and nudges you to consider the issue from several angles.
After having a good knowledge of the goals of the users, I went back to the business goals and noted some technical issues. In order to guarantee that our product would have support from all stakeholders, I next designed a Venn diagram to illustrate the project goals, whereby user and business goals are linked.
I made a journey map to serve as a further design guide, to show how Max interacts with a product to accomplish their goals and to pinpoint sources of friction during Max's experience. I used stars to draw attention to the crucial details that may make Max happy.
03
IDEATE
After selecting which features to prioritize and include, I developed a site map to assist clarify the app's overall content structure as well as the links between various screens and features. The objective is to provide a logical and simple path for people to follow while preventing them from feeling overwhelmed while they are under stress due to skin problems.
Next, we'll discover how Max will interact with the app. I began by listing the main activities Max would need to do depending on their objectives and the main sites they may run upon.
The user flow starts with Max’s entry into the app and continues all the way through to the decisions made while interacting with the app. Creating a user flow is a solid step. Designing with knowledge of your user’s needs will keep users engaged in your product.
04
PROTOTYPE & TEST
After I've done with the wireframing step, I moved on to put all the elements above together to create the app's hi-fidelity design. Ready to test!

CONCLUSION
As a designer, through my design I tried to help people who are new to skincare, or struggling to manage a healthy work-life balance after spending too much time on other things but take care of themselves, of their skin condition.
The purpose of WuahSkin is to deliver a meaningful message to everyone, regardless of age or gender: you're always beautiful the way you are, and you're worth it. If you want to put yourself first but are too busy, then you have WuahSkin - your skincare buddy that helps streamline the whole skincare process. Your journey to glowing skin and a healthy mind is now a breeze. On top of that, the app also wants to remind you that: on this journey, you're not alone. That's why we created a safe community where users can create momentum, share their thoughts, tips, or any skincare-related knowledge with others, and make progress together. It's the mini world where everybody can freely be themselves.
I'm a designer, and also a person who used to struggle to overcome low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety caused by acne during my puberty, I totally understand the situation. Until now, after years of taking care of my skin, I still have problems with my skin condition and always feel the need to learn more about skincare. That's why having a skincare app, like WuahSkin, which offers reliable information provided by professionals in a digestible way, will help me save a lot of time, budgets and minimize the time I need to achieve positive outcomes.
All of the information can be shared with other social platforms. The ability of cross-platform share will allow individuals to generate and enhance the motivation that everybody needs to embark on a whole new skincare journey.
In the future, I would love to implement some other new features that help encourage users to log in to the app more frequently. I think that adding some rewarding programs would be cool since it would motivate users to use and spread the power of the app by introducing it to others.
Overall, I had a really great time with this project. I had a chance to talk to people, listen and understand more about their problems. I realized each one has a different story, and I felt like my app would help tackle their issues to some extent.
I'm extremely proud of the outcome and had a lot of fun designing something end-to-end myself!
